GATE is conducted through the constitution of eight zones. The zones and the corresponding administrative institutes are:

Number of attempts is not restricted. The best of the valid GATE score is accepted which we provide in application form. The GATE score is valid for 2 years.

There is no age limit.

The candidate should have a PASS certificate from any recognized university.

You can spend 6-12 months to prepare for GATE.

There are around 300 colleges and therefore cutoffs are not often revealed by institutes. You can refer to Post gate admission guide which lists cutoffs for various IISc, IITs and NITs time to time.

This is a dynamic kind of information that varies with stream, specialization, the institute and the industry with every particular year.

Post gate admission guide will give you a better idea of what branches are interdisciplinary. However, the details vary from institute to institute. In general if you are changing branches, your admission will be possible in interdisciplinary specializations only.

The basic requirement for GATE is an Engineering degree or MSc. If the person has an engineering degree, he can give the exam, otherwise not possible.

The higher score you have secured of the two will be considered automatically once you fill-up the form.

Most institutes do not specify their cut-offs for previous years. So there is a general confusion in terms of selecting institutes and specializations. But in the recent years IIT Kharagpur and Guwahati have been specifying last year cut-off mark list.

The following can be considered for the cut-offs Scores:
1. Percentile Above 96 – IIT’s, IISc
2. Percentile Between 85 – 96 - NIT’s
3. Percentile Less than 85 – Other institutes.

• Some institutions specify GATE qualification as mandatory even for admission of self-financing students to postgraduate programmes.
• GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories and CSIR sponsored projects. Top rank holders in some GATE papers are entitled to apply for “Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowship” awarded by CSIR. Some government organizations prescribe GATE qualification as a requirement for applying to the post of a Scientist/ Engineer.
